Mica band heaters
Mica band heaters from KMT Heiztechnik are flat resistance heating elements based on mica insulation — manufactured in Austria, developed and produced in-house since 1987. With a minimum overall height of 4 mm and an operating temperature of up to 350 °C, they cover the technically demanding field of surface heating.
In production since 1987
The flat precision solution
from our own manufacturing.
Since 1987, we have designed and produced mica band heaters entirely in-house — every stage of manufacturing under one roof in Austria. Every element is made to customer drawing: from single units to series production.
At the core is a meander-wound NiCr resistance wire, embedded in a technically refined sandwich of mica insulation material. The protective sheet-steel casing ensures mechanical stability and even pressure distribution — at a minimum overall height of just 4 mm.
Extremely flat design
Overall heights from 4 mm enable mounting positions that were previously not achievable by design: under press platens, in narrow gaps, directly on tooling.
Shape flexibility
Mica can be wound. We supply both flat panel heating elements and wound cylindrical band heaters made to measure.
Austrian in-house production
We have manufactured exclusively in-house since 1987. No middlemen, no minimum quantities — direct control over every detail.
Fast delivery
Since every stage of manufacturing is in-house, external dependencies are eliminated. Custom orders are produced without delay.

Safety notes
Mounting & safety
Proper mounting is a prerequisite for the function, service life and operational safety of your heating system.
!Pressure plates: mandatory for flat and frame heaters
Flat and frame heaters may only be operated with pressure plates in full-surface contact.
- Even clamping force protects the NiCr core from wire breakage.
- Closing even the smallest air gaps prevents hotspots (thermal destruction).
With round heaters too, the heater must sit flush against the full surface of the cylinder and must not lift off anywhere — at any point where it lifts, the energy is not transferred to the surface and the heater burns out. Here, however, the pressure is applied not by a pressure plate but by a tension band and buckle closure.
Mounting surface check
- 01Surface flat & burr-free
- 02Clean & degrease mounting surface
- 03No loose particles / corrosion residue
- 04Even clamping pressure (spring clamp)
- 05Route connection leads away from the hot zone
- 06Observe strain relief at the connection
- 07Retighten buckle closure after the first heat-up
- 08Commission only with temperature control / monitoring

Designs & configurations
Cylindrical band heater
Rolled up for heating cylindrical surfaces such as injection molding cylinders or extruders. Fixed with tension band and buckle closure.
Frame heating element
Planar in rectangular design with surrounding stainless-steel casing. For platen presses and tooling surfaces.
Heating plate
Rigid plate construction with reinforced casing. Often serves as a load-bearing component in the fixture itself.
Special shapes
L-shape, U-shape, semi-cylindrical or contoured to drawing. We manufacture any geometry with no minimum quantity.
Connection options
Whether flexible lead wire or plug contact: we adapt the connection to your mounting situation.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
No. We manufacture mica band heaters from a quantity of one — from a single unit for maintenance to a recurring series. As a contract manufacturer with our own production in Kronstorf, every heater is built to order in the first place, so there is no minimum quantity.
Yes, custom shapes are the rule for us, not the exception. In addition to round, flat and frame heaters, we also produce non-round geometries as well as versions with bores and cutouts — for example for sensors, screws or ejector pins. All we need is your drawing, a dimensioned sketch or a sample part.
In essence: design, dimensions, voltage, power and connection type — the full list is in the checklist on the inquiry form. The more complete the information, the fewer follow-up questions are needed. If a value is missing, we clarify it together during the technical review of your inquiry.
Yes, on request we integrate a type J or type K thermocouple directly into the heater. This lets you monitor the heater itself and reliably protect it against overtemperature. For controlling the process temperature, we recommend an additional sensor in the barrel or tool — the heater reaches temperature faster than the material inside it. Please state the desired position of the measuring point in your inquiry.
As standard, we manufacture for 230 V, 400 V and 480 V. Other voltages are implemented on request — relevant, for example, for export machinery or low-voltage applications. We size the power output to match your application.
As a guideline value, we design mica band heaters for 3.5 W/cm² — a level that ensures a long service life in practice. Higher watt densities are possible after reviewing the specific application. What matters most is always how well the heat is dissipated at the contact surface.
Yes. Send us the old part or the data from the nameplate — we measure the heater and manufacture a matching replacement. This also works if the original manufacturer no longer exists or no drawing is available.
You send us your requirement — via form, email or phone. We review the information technically, clarify any open points directly with you and prepare a quote. After your order, we manufacture the heater in Kronstorf and deliver it to you fully tested.

Inquiry checklist
This is what we need for your quote:
- 01Design: round, flat or frame heater
- 02Dimensions: for round heaters, inner diameter × width; for flat/frame heaters, length × width
